Farmhouse lighting is a beautiful mix of weathered wood and rustic metal finishes, and is available in chandeliers, pendants, wall sconces and lamps. They give a soothing earthy feel to your decor in their simplicity and design. While many farmhouse lighting pieces are depicted in front of thick shiplap walls and grainy wide board floors with concrete countertops, they actually fit into many more decor themes! Modern, contemporary, french country, coastal and more are a perfect fit for these fixtures.
Clean lines, simple finishes and uncomplicated designs are timeless. Change up your furniture, rugs, wall colors and the fixtures can stay. Add some crystals for some chic sparkle and shine and your lighting will be the star of the show!
Farmhouse lighting frequently features metal, most often in a oiled bronze, with gives a rich, almost black finish. Match that up with your door hardware and accessories to tie your lighting into the decor.
Chandeliers are statement pieces for over the kitchen island, dining tables, bedrooms and even the bath. Chandeliers come in various sizes, even as small as 12", similar to pendants. Crystal, round, rectangular......use a fixture that does not overwhelm the space below, but is also not too small. The way to figure out what size you need is to take the dimensions of your room - example 14' x 14' and convert that into inches - 14" x 14" and add them together = 28". That should be the diameter of your chandelier. For a rectangular chandelier over a table or island, use half the size of the space. For example a 8' x 4' island should have a 4' x 2' chandelier.
Wall sconces and pendants are for smaller spaces such as hallways, over a nightstand or a small bath. You can also double and triple up pendants over an island or table if a chandelier would not work in your space. A rule in design is balance is created by repeating an element three times. Hanging three pendants shows a better balance and look, but it is becoming more and more popular to hang two larger pendants to get the light your need without so many fixtures.
